STATUE

I am a gold statue
standing still
waiting for someone to win
not caring who except
when a person wins me
and puts me with many
other statues saying
i am just
another

I am not important to others
because i am not solid gold
just copper with gold paint
the only that will appreciate me
is the one who wins
for the first time and he saying
that he is a winner

I build up his esteem
and that is what is
important. I have
to stand still and
am only won, put in a
dark room unless
he has a celebration
and i feel good
about myself

Nice personification of an award statue! It also caused me to think about our own self-esteem and how that comes from being ourselves as well as being appreciated by people. I liked it very much.

I really loved this poem. A really wonderful image to talk about self esteem through the voice of a statue. It made me wonder how often we measure our success through objects.
It would be interesting if you carried through this idea through several different poems and associations of things that make us feel successful and see how you can use poetry to explore the depth and expanse of an emotion. Great Job!

You have created a great visual through written words.
